General Staging & Safety Requirements

The Stage

It is ideal to stage angle grinding performances in areas with 10' of clearance in all directions.

Audience Separation

For performer safety, audience members should never be close enough to the performance area to be able to touch the performer or her tools while she is performing. For patron safety, audience members should never be close enough to the sparks to be able to touch the spark spray.

Extension Cords

Corded angle grinders are typically paired with an extension cord to improve the performance range. Extension cords create a tripping hazard for patrons and will also end the performance if accidentally pulled out of the wall. As such, extension cords should not be placed in an area with foot traffic. If this can not be avoided, the extension cords should be taped down or else placed under a heavy carpet.

Considerations for Indoor Performances

Flammability

The sparks generated do not burn hot enough to spark a fire.

Metal Dust

This act may leave a light layer of metal dust from the sparks.

Ventilation

This act does not generate fumes.

Smoke Alarms & Sprinkler Systems

This act does not set off smoke alarms or sprinkler systems.

Considerations for Outdoor Performances

Time of Day

For the best visibility of the sparks, outdoor grinder performances should take place at dusk or after dark.

Extreme Temperatures

Angle grinder performances should not take place during extreme heat advisories.

Sally will not perform angle grinding outdoors once the temperature reaches approximately 32° Fahrenheit (0° Celsius). Some performers might be willing, but not Sally; she does not enjoy being cold. Wind chill will be taken into consideration with the calculation of the temperature.

Warming Stations

The venue or client must provide a warming station for Sally to use before, between, and after performances once the temperatures start dropping during the Fall/ Winter months.

Weather & Inclement Conditions

It is not possible to predict the weather with accuracy when planning for outdoor performances that will take place at a future date. Alternate plans should be made for performances in the event of rain, storms, or other conditions that may be considered dangerous or otherwise unsuitable for outdoor performances.

Travel Considerations

Luggage

Angle grinders can be transported in checked luggage. Due to the weight of the angle grinder, angle grinding apparatuses such as a grinder belt, and extension cords, angle grinding acts travel best in their own small suitcase.

International Travel Considerations

Sally's angle grinder is manufactured for use in the USA. The USA operates on a 120V supply voltage and 60Hz.
